I remember being a boy about 5-years-old and looking up at this American flag from my father’s rust-colored Monte Carlo after going to Sunday mass at St. Casmir’s Church in the Ironbound, Newark NJ. 30 years later the flag is faded, but it is still there. The building and the image of the American flag imprinted on it have become part of the iconography of the city as well as part of the urban fabric of the city of Newark.
